Joint Information Systems Committee

The Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) is a British non-profit organization that promotes digital technologies in research and teaching. It offers digital services and solutions for universities and further education institutions.

The JISC was established in 1993 . He was given responsibility for the British research network JANET (comparable to the German Science Network ). In the 1990s, the eLIB program created a vision of future academic librarianship that had a huge impact in the UK. Many other research projects followed in the library sector, but also on barrier-free access , e-learning , free access to scientific literature (open access) and combating plagiarism .

Members are the Association of Colleges (AoC), the Union of Universities (Universities UK - UUK) and the Professional Association for Higher Education (GuildHE). In addition, any recognized university in Great Britain can become an institutional member of the JISC. Funding is mainly provided by the science promotion organizations and the ministries of economics in the individual parts of the country.
