German science network
The German Science Network (WiN) was established in May 1990 by the DFN-Verein and operated by Deutsche Telekom (Deutsche Telekom Systemlösungen GmbH, Frankfurt, or DeTeSystem for short ). It connected universities, technical colleges, large research institutions, libraries and other public institutions. Selected companies from the IT sector were also able to participate in the network (at higher prices).
Technically, the WiN was an X.25 network that was implemented as a subset of the DATEX-P network of Deutsche Telekom. Connections with a bandwidth of up to 2 Mbit / s were available.
