Joint Investigation Team

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Joint Investigation Team (abbreviation: JIT; German : "joint investigation group") is an investigation group set up for a certain period of time with the participation of authorities from two or more EU member states.

The establishment of a JIT requires an individual agreement between the participating countries. It is based on Article 13 of the 2000 EU Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters. Non-EU countries can join a JIT with the consent of everyone else involved. A participation of Eurojust and Europol is possible.
