The Joint Service Achievement Medal (German community service achievement medal ) is an achievement medal of the armed forces of the United States , which is given for military merit to younger officers and crew ranks if the Joint Service Commendation Medal cannot be used.

All branches of the armed forces have their own Achievement Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal is intended for joint military service and is awarded by the United States Department of Defense .

The first Achievement Medals were created by the United States Navy and the United States Coast Guard in 1961. The Joint Service Achievement Medal has existed since 1983.

Multiple awards are shown with golden or silver oak leaves .

In the Order of Precedence, Achievement Medals rank below Commendation Medals, such as the Joint Service Commendation Medal and above the Commandant's Letter of Commendation and Combat Action Ribbons.
