Jojo (plum)

Plum tree "Jojo", about two years old, freshly planted, pruning.

Jojo is a plum variety that was bred in 1981 by Walter Hartmann at the University of Hohenheim (from a cross of Ortenauer plum and Stanley plum ) and brought onto the market in 1999.

It is the only completely Sharka- resistant plum variety so far . Jojo's shark resistance is a result of the strain's hypersensitivity to the virus. The tissue of the tree dies around the infested site, which stops the pathogen from penetrating further. Therefore, yo-yo can only be grafted on sharka-free substrates; if grafted onto an infected substrate, the noble rice would not grow due to the rejection reaction.

The fruits ripen late, are medium-sized, elongated and, when ripe, blue and heavily ripened.

The tree grows moderately and is suitable for all forms of crown training .
