Jokkmokk Church

The church of Jokkmokk was built between 1887/88 according to plans by the architect Ernst Abraham Jacobsson in Jokkmokk in northern Sweden .

The church is an excellent example of late 19th century wooden architecture. The building is square in plan, with a tower in one corner, while two other corners are occupied by entrances with a vestibule. The sacristy is in the fourth corner . Between these corner rooms there are galleries on three sides, while the fourth side forms the choir with the altar. The interior of the church makes an open and tent-like impression and thus refers to the predominantly Sami population of this area at the time of construction .
