Joliette is a subway station in Montreal . It is located in the arrondissement of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve at the intersection of Rue Hochelaga and Rue Joliette. The station designed by Marcel Raby was created in the form of a tunnel station . The platform level with two side platforms is 14.3 meters deep . The distances to the neighboring stations, measured from station end to station start, are 383.43 meters to Préfontaine and 766.88 meters to Pie-IX . There are connections to two bus lines and a night bus line of the Société de transport de Montréal .

The mural Thème des mouvements du soleil

The architect Marcel Raby was also responsible for the artistic design of the station and created the mural Thème des mouvements du soleil (“Subject of the movements of the sun”). The work is located on the distribution level and is made of colored glass, synthetic resin and stainless steel. It is 12.3 meters long and 3.1 meters high. Circles with glass drops lit from behind are supposed to symbolize the movements of the solar system.

history

The opening of the station took place on June 6, 1976, together with the section Frontenac - Honoré-Beaugrand of the green line. Name giver is the Rue Joliette, named after the politician Barthélemy Joliette (1789-1850). In the 1820s he founded the village of L'Industrie, from which the town of Joliette emerged.
