Jon Storm-Mathisen

Jon Storm-Mathisen (born January 16, 1941 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian neuroscientist . He is Professor Emeritus of Medicine in the Department of Anatomy at the Medical Faculty of the University of Oslo . Storm-Mathisen was previously deputy head of the Center for Molecular Biology and Neuroscience . He retired in 2011.

He received the Anders Jahres Medical Prize 2006 for his groundbreaking research on neurotransmitters in the brain. The reason for the award was explained by the fact that Jon Storm-Mathisen showed that nerve cells in the brain communicate through the use of the amino acid glutamate as a neurotransmitter. This was a surprising new finding. He also received the University of Oslo Research Award in 2004 on the grounds that he is fundamentally responsible for the current positive environment in neurobiology. He is one of the most cited Norwegian researchers.
