The Jonangi is a dog breed from India not recognized by the FCI .

Origin and history

The Jonangi is an original, very old breed of dog from the eastern coast of India. It is assigned to the pariah dogs or the Schensi dogs and perhaps has the same ancestors as the dingoes of Australia .

description

Faintly reminiscent of a bull terrier , however, it is nowhere near as stocky and massive. The height at the withers (shoulder height) is about 35 to 40 cm. Its fur is short, close-fitting, in many colors, such as various shades of brown, but also black with white. The head with the wrinkled forehead and the tulip ears is striking. The tail, i.e. the tail, is carried rolled up over the back. In his vocalizations he resembles the Basenji , he makes yodel-like noises instead of barking. As with many primitive dogs, the bitch only comes into heat once a year. This breed of dog is on the verge of extinction, but efforts have recently been made to preserve it for posterity.

use

The medium-sized courageous dog is still kept today as a family dog, as a guard dog or for hunting small game.
