Monk deals with the autonomy demands of conceptual art and minimalism of the 1960s and 1970s, i.e. with artists such as Sol LeWitt , Daniel Buren , On Kawara and Alighiero Boetti . He often reinterprets and counteracts works and models from 20th century art history. His works are mostly to be seen as art about art, in which the most diverse media such as photography, film, performance, video, sculpture, mail art and the use of everyday means of production and communication acquire conceptual significance.
