Jorge Inglés
Jorge Inglés was a painter who worked in 15th century Spain, probably of English origin.
Life
Little is known about his life. It is conjecture that his name indicates his British origin; it may also have come from Flanders. The year of birth and death are also uncertain. The only fixed date is June 5, 1454 when Íñigo López de Mendoza , Marqués de Santillana , commissioned him in his will to build an altar. The execution of this Marian altar shows a clear Flemish influence in the sense of the Tournai school .
Jerome altar from La Mejorada (Olmedo) monastery. Today in the Museo Nacional de Escultura
The famous Hieronymus Altar in the National Sculpture Museum in Valladolid is also attributed to Inglés.
