Ulrich Volp

Ulrich Volp (born November 5, 1971 in Marburg ) is a German Protestant theologian . He has been Professor of Church History at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz since 2008 and was its Dean from 2011 to 2014 .

Life

Volp studied Protestant theology from 1990 to 1996 in Marburg , St. Andrews and Heidelberg . In 2001 he received his doctorate in Bonn after initially working as a doctoral student at the University of Cambridge in England and then as a research assistant at the University of Birmingham (also England). From 2000 to 2006 he was an assistant in the department for church history in Bonn, where he completed his habilitation in 2006 and immediately took on a substitute professorship for church history.

In 2007 he represented the professorship for church and dogma history at the University of Mainz, to which he was appointed in the same year. In 2010 the Evangelical Theological Faculty elected him vice dean, and from 2011 to 2014 he held the office of dean of the faculty. From 2012 to 2014 he was also Dean of Faculty 01 for Protestant and Catholic Theology.

In Mainz he founded the research center “Ethics in Antiquity and Christianity” together with Friedrich Wilhelm Horn and Ruben Zimmermann .

Volp is the German national correspondent of the Association Internationale d'Études Patristiques (AIEP ) and co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Kirchengeschichte .
