Friedrich Wilhelm Horn (born October 22, 1953 in Denklingen ) is a German Protestant theologian . From 1992 to 1996 he was Professor of New Testament at the Gerhard Mercator University in Duisburg and from 1996 until his retirement in 2019 in the same position at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .

Life

After graduating from the Hollenberg School in Waldbröl , Friedrich Wilhelm Horn studied Protestant theology in Wuppertal and Göttingen from 1972 to 1978 . Following the first theological exam, he was initially a repetitionist for the New Testament at the theological faculty of the Georg-August University in Göttingen from 1978 to 1981 , before completing a vicariate in Salzgitter-Bad until 1983 , which he completed with the second theological exam Evangelical Lutheran regional church in Braunschweig . From 1983 to 1985 Horn was pastor at the St. Vincenz Church in Schöningen and, at the same time, held a teaching position at the Department of Protestant Theology at the University of Hamburg . From 1985 to 1991 he was a temporary academic advisor at the Theological Faculty of the Georg-August University in Göttingen and in 1991 he received a scholarship from the Heisenberg Foundation.

In 1982, Horn was from the Georg-August University of Göttingen with a thesis on faith and action in Luke's theology doctorate . He completed his habilitation in 1990 with studies in Pauline pneumatology under the title Das Angeld des Geistes .

From 1999 to 2001 as well as from 2006 to 2008 he assumed the office of dean of the joint department of Protestant and Catholic theology, from 2005 to 2008 he was also head of the Protestant theological faculty. Horn was deputy chairman of the Scientific Society for Theology from 2002 to 2005 and chairman of the New Testament section from 2005 to 2008. In addition to his academic work, Horn also participates in church committees: From 1997 to 2004 he was an appointed member of the eighth regional synod of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau . Since 2007 he has also been a member of the specialist commission of the Mixed Commission for Reforming Theology Studies in the EKD, which is responsible for the pastoral and master’s degree courses.

Friedrich Wilhelm Horn is married to the Byzantine art historian and theologian Dr. Martina Horn, b. Stoll. You have three children.
