José Gómez , also known by the nickname Che (in Spanish-speaking countries the name for an Argentine ), is a former Argentine football coach and player in the position of striker .
Life
player
José "Che" Gómez played between 1941 and 1945 and again in the 1946/47 season for the CD Marte , with which he won the last officially held amateur soccer championship in Mexico in the 1942/43 season.
For the season 1945/46 he moved to the new in the professional league recorded CF Monterrey , he also scored the first goal for the first division in its history. His goal on August 19, 1945 marked the winning goal to make it 1-0 on the first matchday against Club San Sebastián .
Only four weeks later, on the night of September 15, 1945, the team bus had an accident on its way to an away game at CD Oro and caught fire. Gómez risked his own life to save some of his comrades from death in flames. The club could not recover from this misfortune and ended the season with 133 goals conceded. Like many of his comrades, Gómez was out for some time due to injury and returned to his former club Marte after the season, before moving to CF Atlante for the 1947/48 season.
Trainer
After his active career, Gómez worked extensively as a coach. In the 1960/61 season he looked after his former club CF Monterrey and 13 years later he led its city rivals U.ANL in the 1973/74 season to win the second division championship and to be promoted to the Primera División for the first time. There he looked after the promotion team until he was replaced by Claudio Lostanau during the 19747/75 season.
Three years later he won the second division championship of the 1976/77 season with Atlante, who was relegated from the previous year, and thus led him back directly to the first division, where he still looked after the Potros for the entire 1977/78 season.
In addition, Gomez coached the Atlas Club and in the 1964/65 season the Tiburones Rojos Veracruz .
