José Gil (composer)

José Gil (* 1886 in Spain, † 1947 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine composer and music teacher.

Gil came to Argentina in 1889 at the age of three. There he studied music with Alberto Williams and became professor of counterpoint at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música y Arte Escénico in Buenos Aires. Here studied, among others, Roberto García Morillo and Alberto Ginastera with him. From 1932 he was also a director of the Teatro Colón . Among other things, Gil composed the official anthem of the Congreso Eucarístico Internacional 1934 in Buenos Aires and Danzas argentinas .

Gil has received awards for his compositions from the Instituto Miter , the City of Buenos Aires and the Asociación Wagneriana .
