In 1892, Josef Lippert founded a delicatessen store in the “Zur Schwarzen Rose” house in Prague. Later he relocated the shop Am Graben ( Na Příkopě ). There is a bank at this point today. The Lippert deli became very successful and known for the high quality of the products. Customers included not only the upper class, but also the nobility and the royal court. For this, Lippert was awarded the title of kuk court purveyor from 1900 .

His son Viktor continued the tradition. In 1933 he expanded the company to include a restaurant in what is now Passage Brodway. However, the company did not survive the turmoil of World War II and communist rule and had to close.

Only after the end of communism under the conditions of the new market economy from 1989 was the name Lippert revived. The newly founded Lippert potraviny sro ( Lippert Lebensmittel GmbH ) continues the old tradition. All Lippert products come from the Czech Republic, except for the coffee, and are sustainable and organically grown.
