biography

Youth and job

Josef Oehri was born in 1918 as the eldest son of Josef Oehri and his wife Emilie (née Büchel). He grew up with two brothers and two sisters. His parents owned a farm and a small grocery store in Ruggell . After finishing school he had to do without an apprenticeship due to the economic situation and work in his parents' farm. In the early 1940s he built his own house with a stable and a small shop. He married in September 1944, had four daughters and initially ran his small farm. His shop became a household, agricultural and hardware store in November 1945. In 1957 he opened another store. In 1974 he spun off the hardware and tools division from the household business. While the household department continued to operate under the name “Heimdekor Oehri”, iron goods and tools were now taken over by “Oehri Eisenwaren AG”. Over the years this has developed into one of the leading suppliers for craftsmen in the region.

During his tenure, among other things, the new Rhine bridges Ruggell-Salez, Bendern-Haag and Balzers-Trübbach were built and the country road network expanded. When the Patriotic Union was able to achieve a majority in 1970 , Oehri left the government. From 1974 to 1978 he was Vice President of the AHV / IV / FAK Board of Directors.
