Josep Pujol (musician)

Josep Pujol (* 18th century; † 18th century) was a Catalan composer and conductor of the Barcelona Cathedral .

life and work

Josep Pujol is documented as Kapellmeister of the Cathedral of Barcelona in 1739. He took this position as the successor to Francesc Valls .

He was the censor of the Dominican Bernat Comes ' Fragmentos músicos , which were published that same year. In October 1759 a Te Deum was performed by Pujol to mark the arrival of Charles III. to celebrate in Spain.

His compositional work is kept in the National Library of Catalonia . His work encompasses both liturgical and, more broadly, religious music. The following works have been preserved: the Mass Gaudent in coelis for eight voices, the Mass Salve Regina for ten voices, another mass for eight voices and a Planctus in Passione Domini as well as some instrumental works. He also composed several oratorios including Ab arce sublimi (1750), El juicio particular (1770) and La casta Susana (1798).
