Joseph Abraham

Joseph Abrahams was a British lawyer. He was the first Jew to be admitted as a solicitor in England .

In 1763, Abraham's clerk at the King's Bench lawyer, George Ellis Jr. and later with Robt. Gill of Angel Court. He was admitted to the bar by Judge Yates on January 23, 1770, and was sworn in as a solicitor in the Court of Chancery on February 13 of that year . Despite his Jewish faith, he took the oath on the Bible.

His appointment is also briefly mentioned in Israel Zangwill's 1925 play “The King of Schnorrers”, but not in his 1894 novella of the same name .
