Joseph Barron

Joseph Barron († July 30, 1968 ) was an Irish politician of the Clann na Poblachta , who was between 1961 and 1965 a member of the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ).

Life

Barron, who worked as a teacher, applied as a candidate for the Clann na Poblachta in the elections on February 4, 1948 , May 30, 1951 , May 14, 1954 and March 5, 1957 in the constituency of Dublin South-Central, each unsuccessfully for a mandate in Dáil Éireann.

In the elections of October 4, 1961 he was finally elected for the Clann na Poblachta in the constituency of Dublin South-Central as a member of the House of Commons ( Teachta Dála ). He was the only representative of his party in the 17th legislative period , since the former Foreign Minister Seán MacBride had lost his seat in this election. Barron thereby also became the political leader of the Clann na Poblachta.

In the elections of April 7, 1965 , however, he suffered a defeat and lost his mandate. In this election, John Tully, only one candidate from the Clann na Poblachta, was elected to the House of Commons. Thereupon the party decided at its party congress ( Ardfheis ) on July 10, 1965 to dissolve itself , as previously considerations of a merger with other parties such as the Irish Labor Party , Sinn Féin or the National Progressive Democrats had failed.
