Joseph Giunta (Mafioso)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joseph Giunta (* 1887 , † 7 / 8. May 1929 in Chicago ) was an American mobster of the Chicago Outfit .

After the assassination of Pasqualino "Patsy" Lolordo , Giunta became president of the Unione Siciliana .

In 1929, Al Capone came to the conclusion that Joseph Giunta, John Scalise and Albert Anselmi were no longer loyal and had defected to his opponent Joseph Aiello when he found out that Aiellos had contacted him.

It is still unclear whether the three were really convinced by Aiello; in any case, Capone was evidently no longer taking any risks. However, whether he actually laid hands on May 7, 1929 with the help of a baseball bat , as some Mafia films show, is more doubtful today and is considered one of the many ineradicable legends of La Cosa Nostra . In any case, the battered bodies of the three possible defectors were found on May 8, 1929 in Douglas Park .

Joseph Giunta was buried in the Mount Carmel Cemetery .
