Aerial photographer and pilot Gerhard Launer

Gerhard Launer (born January 8, 1949 in Werneck , Schweinfurt district , Lower Franconia ) is one of the most famous German aerial photographers .

Life

Gerhard Launer was born in Werneck in 1949. As a child he received violin lessons and at the age of 9 was invited by the world-famous soloist and violin pedagogue Tibor Varga for a 3-month stay in Switzerland . At the age of 14 he began studying violin at the Würzburg Conservatory . As a result of an accident, he had to give up his goal of becoming a musician.

During his studies as a graphic designer, he obtained a private pilot's license - later a commercial pilot's license ; He thus combined his interests photography and flying and made them his profession: aerial photography.

His passion is the peculiarities and structures in nature that cannot be seen from the ground. This is how his “artistic photos” are created, which are published in calendars and books. With his calendars “Structures” and “Wind, Water, Waves” he won first and second prizes at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 1996 , awarded by the German Book Trade Association . In 2003, Gerhard Launer was featured on the TV show Galileo on ProSieben to explain how aerial photographs are made.
In the spring of 2004, Knesebeck-Verlag published his first book entitled Germany from above - Day by Day . More books followed. In May 2005, Gerhard Launer was featured in the magazine Stern with his pictures “Germany is so beautiful”.
