Joseph Sebag-Montefiore
Sir Joseph Sebag-Montefiore (born August 29, 1822 in London , † January 19, 1903 there ) was a British banker and politician.
He was the son of Solomon Sebag and his wife Sarah Montefiore. On August 29, 1885, with royal permission, his family name was added to his mother's family at Sebag-Montefiore.
He was the nephew and inheritance of Moses Montefiore . He held a wide variety of public offices, including a. 1889 Justice of the Peace (JP) for Kent, Lieutenant of the City of London, High Sheriff of Kent. For a long time he was the officially recognized representative of the English Jews. I.a. he was from 1894 to 1902 the president of the council of the Spanish-Portuguese Jews of London . In 1896 he was in the equestrian levied.
