Joseph Thors

Joseph Thors (* around 1835 ; † 1884 ) was an English landscape painter who exhibited largely in England towards the end of the 19th century .

Little is known about Thors' life, he worked and lived in London , later in Birmingham , and toured France for a while . He had exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts , British Institution and the Society of British Artists as well as in London and also in Birmingham between 1869 and 1900.

Thors is seen as a member of the Birmingham School , although his style followed that of the Norwich School , which he admired. He painted with oils , his work represented peaceful English rustic scenes: landscapes, huts, people and animals. He also painted river landscapes and sometimes coasts.
