Joseph Yacovelli

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joseph "Jo Yak" Yacovelli (also Joseph Iacovelli ) (* 1929; † after 1973) was a high-ranking member of the US American La Cosa Nostra and was briefly head of the " Colombo family " in New York City .

On April 7, 1972, Joseph "Crazy Joe" Gallo was murdered while celebrating his 43rd birthday. His bodyguard, Peter Diapoulas , barely survived the attack, which investigators believed was ordered by Joseph Yacovelli and carried out by Frank Sheeran . This ended after more than ten years the internal conflict in the Colombo family, which had started under Joseph Profaci and was actually formally ended under Joseph Magliocco in 1963.

On November 13, 1972 Joseph Yacovelli was with Carmine Persico , Carmine "Sonny Pinto" DiBiase and Joseph Russo of obstruction of justice indicted. Russo was suspected of murder; the prosecution ultimately failed on September 25, 1973.

Actually, Joseph Yacovelli was the so-called consigliere - the advisor - of the clan, from this point of view he was perhaps actually only accepted as a temporary managing head of the "Colombo family"; Joseph Colombo was still in a coma from which he never woke up and did not die until 1978. In any case, Yacovelli waived in 1973 in favor of Joseph Brancoto .

According to another reading, Yacovelli was never head of the family, but when Joseph Colombo was in a coma, it was first Vincenzo Aloi and then, also omitting Joseph Brancoto, Carmine Persico in 1972.
