The adventures of Joslin de Lay (English. The Joslin de Lay Mysteries ) is a series of novels for children and young people by the English author Dennis Hamley . The series can be assigned to the genre of medieval crime novels.

The six volumes were published between 1998 and 2001; the first three have so far been translated into German. The first volume brought the author the international breakthrough as a youth book author.

The stories in the series The Adventures of Joslin de Lay take place in the 14th century, when the Hundred Years War was raging between England and France . It's about the life story of a young man who fled from France to Wales after the murder of his father to look for his mother there.

1. The fifth face

The year is 1368. In England there is violence and danger. Joslin de Lay, a young Frenchman, is a stranger in this country. Because he is on the run from his father's murderers. His destination is Wales, his mother's home. There he hopes to find protection and security and finally to uncover the secret of his origin.

The trip to England turns out to be very dangerous for Joslin de Lay. Everywhere he meets people who only distrust him - after all, he is accused of being a French spy. Mysterious occurrences and apparent coincidences endanger his life. He is captured on arrival and charged with murder. Joslin tries to find out who is really after him, and whether his father's murderers are behind it. When more murders occur, he becomes a suspect. Joslin discovered a painting of the Last Judgment on which the faces of the murder victims were immortalized the day before their death. There is little time left for Joslin to solve the murders because the fifth face shows himself.
