The Journal for Practical Chemistry ( J. Prakt. Chem. ), Also "Journal for Practical Chemistry", was a scientific journal of chemistry. The journal was founded and published in 1828 by Otto Linné Erdmann (1804–1869) as the “Journal for Technical and Economic Chemistry”, making it the oldest specialist chemistry journal in Germany. In the following years it was continued by Hermann Kolbe and E. von Meyer . From 1953, the journal for practical chemistry was published by the Chemical Society of the German Democratic Republic .

In 1992 the merger with the Chemiker-Zeitung, founded in 1877, took place .

In 2001 the journal for practical chemistry was included in the journal Advanced Synthesis & Catalysis , which is published by Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA , Weinheim.
