The Journal of Economic Theory , often abbreviated as JET , is a specialist journal in the field of economics .
Since 1968 is Karl Shell publisher. Shell shared the post with Jess Benhabib from 2000 to 2004 , later with Alessandro Lizzeri and since then with Christian Hellwig .
The Journal of Economic Theory accepts approximately 10% of all articles submitted.

In the journal list of the Handelsblatt Ranking VWL, the JET was placed in the second best category in both 2007 and 2011 ( A ). Another study by the French economists Pierre-Phillippe Combes and Laurent Linnemer lists the journal with 9th place in the second best category AA.
The Journal of Economic Theory's impact factor in 2012 was 1.069. In the statistics of the Social Sciences Citation Index , the journal was listed 124th out of 333 journals in the economics category with this impact factor .
