The Journal of Geophysical Research is an annual peer-reviewed scientific journal published by Wiley for the American Geophysical Union .

It has appeared since 1896, originally under the name Terrestrial Magnetism , later as Terrestrial Magnetism and Atmospheric Electricity . Today it is divided into seven different sections, numbered A to G and covering different subject areas: A (Space Physics), B (Solid Earth), C (Oceans), D (Atmospheres), E (Planets), F ( Earth Surface), and G (Biogeosciences).

The impact factor in 2014 was 3.426, the five-year impact factor 3.667. With this, the journal was ranked 19th out of 175 journals in the two-year Impact Factor in the "multidisciplinary geosciences " category .
