Royal Statistical Society
The Royal Statistical Society (RSS) ( German : Royal Statistical Society) is a learned society and professional body for statisticians in the UK . It was founded there in 1834 as the “ Statistical Society of London ” ( German : Statistical Society of London). Among its most famous former members was Florence Nightingale , who became the Society's first female member in 1858. In 1887 the present Royal Statistical Society was formed from the Statistical Society of London . In 1993 the Institute of Statisticians ( German : Statistisches Institut) was also integrated.
The organization annually awards the Guy Medal, named after the British doctor and statistician William Guy (1810–1885) .
