Judgan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Judgan (name probably derived from Jehuda ) was a Jewish preacher who posed as a prophet and messiah in Persia in the 7th century AD. He was called Alroy (Shepherd) by his followers . He forbade drinking wine and eating meat. He recommended intense prayer and frequent fasting to his followers. In his opinion, the Sabbath and the feasts were not compulsory for the Jews, since they would only have been valid in Erez Israel at the time of the temple. His followers, called Judganites , later went into the Karaites .
