The Judo Bundesliga 2016 was the 60th season in the history of the Judo Bundesliga and began on April 30, 2016.

The 2016 championship was secured for the first time in its club history by the Hamburg judo team. In the final, the team prevailed 7: 6 against last year's winner TSV Großhadern. The bronze medals were won by SUA Witten and KSV Esslingen. Thus the series of KSV Esslingen, which was runner-up 5 times in a row, was broken.

The teams relegated in the previous year ( TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the north and JSV Speyer in the south) were replaced by the promoted teams from JC 66 Bottrop (north) and, for the first time, TV Erlangen (south). In addition, the three-time title holder JC 90 Frankfurt (Oder) withdrew from the northern relay for sporting and economic reasons. Since TSV Bayer Leverkusen as the official relegated team and various second division teams waived their right to start, only 5 teams competed in the northern relay in 2016.

In the run-up, the changes of the national team fighters Igor Wandtke , Alexander Wieczerzak and Aaron Hildebrand also caused a stir. All three switched from the reigning champion TSV Großhadern to the competitor and last year's third, the Hamburg judo team.
