from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Terezin Youth Meeting Center is part of the Theresienstadt Memorial in Terezin , Czech Republic. German-speaking volunteers do one year as employees of the memorial as part of the Austrian civil service or a voluntary service.

The volunteers look after school and youth groups from Germany and Austria. Guided tours, workshops, eyewitness talks and museum visits are also offered. The work is carried out in close cooperation with the educational department of the Czech-speaking memorial.

history

The youth meeting place was founded in 1993 with the arrival of the first Austrian memorial servant . Since 1997, the German organization Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste (ARSP) has been sending volunteers to Terezín. However, the activities of ASF in the Czech Republic preceded this time by a long time and the beginnings of Czech-German cooperation, such as summer camps, can already be found in the 1960s.
