Pablo Sáez Cerpa (born November 1, 1978 ) is a Chilean jazz musician , drummer and composer.

Life

Pablo Sáez was born in Santiago de Chile and grew up with music thanks to his father Raúl Sáez Salgado (bands " Santiago del Nuevo Extremo " and " Rythmus U. Chile "). When he was five, Pablo began making music at the Fundación Claudio Arrau , where he learned to play the piano and guitar. Later, his godfather, the drummer Carlos Figueroa López, also taught him drums and percussion and Toly Ramirez (Sábado Gigante, Gloria Estefan , Miami Sound Machine ) instructed him in composing. In Europe he graduated from the Folkwang University of the Arts , where he specialized in jazz drums with Thomas Alkier and Sperie Karas as well as in jazz composition / arrangement with Peter Herborn .

His first public musical appearance was at school with his friends Miguelangel Clerc (composer), Emilio Miranda (La Patogallina Saunachin), Claudio Cordero (cast) and Cristobal Dahm (Media Banda). He played drums for many jazz, rock and fusion musicians in Chile, including Pedro Rodríguez, Enrique Díaz , Alvaro Severino, Pablo Paredes and Pedro Villagra. After completing his studies in drums, he moved to Germany in 2005. Since his arrival he has worked as a guest drummer for hundreds of artists and quickly became one of the most sought-after drummers for ethno jazz, world jazz and South American music in the German music scene. More recently, Sáez has worked for WDR 3 , Ruhr 2010, the Altonaer Theater Kammerspiel in Hamburg, the Bochum Philharmonic Choir , the Mercator Ensemble of the Duisburg Philharmonic , Extrabreit and others. In 2007 and 2008 he played for Seelive Tivoli, which gave him the opportunity to visit more than 40 different countries and gain experience with different audiences, for example audiences from Scandinavia, Africa, the Middle East and Central and South America .

In recent years Sáez has put together a jazz band with guitarist Alvaro Severino, who also comes from Chile, the Brazilian double bass player André de Cayres and guest trumpeter Ryan Carniaux , which performs across Europe under the name "Trio Molino" .

His second solo album Surensemble was mixed by Grammy winner Michael Bishop and mastered by German musician, composer and sound engineer and producer Walter Quintus . Sáez shared the stage and productions with Tony Lakatos , Paul Heller , Ryan Carniaux , Florian Weber , Andy Miles and many more.
