Ryan Carniaux (* 1980 in New York City ) is an American jazz trumpeter .

Carniaux, who grew up in Providence , Rhode Island , began playing the trumpet when he was twelve; As a teenager he played in various bands, including in the John Allmark jazz orchestra. On a scholarship, he studied at Berklee College of Music with Tiger Okoshi , Greg Hopkins , Phil Wilson , Ken Cervenka, Bill Pierce , Eddie Tomassie and George Garzone . In 2003 he moved to Europe, where he held the master class at the Conservatory in Maastricht visited.

Carniaux, who now lives in Cologne, leads his own quartet with pianist Mike Roehlofs, bassist Tomás Baros and drummer Samuel Dühsler. On his debut CD Reflections of the Persevering Spirit , released in 2011 , he was also supported by Wolfgang Lackerschmid , with whom he also went on tour in 2013. In the past he toured as a member of the Radovan Tariška Sextet , with whom he also recorded in 2009, and the Big Band of Peter Herbolzheimer . Since 2011 he has been part of Norbert Stein's Pata on the Cadillac (CD of the same name, 2012); he is also a member of the gRoBA orchestra. He also played with Mark Murphy , Benny Golson , Kidd Jordan , Ondřej Štveráček, Florian Weber , Pablo Held and Thomas Rückert .

Ryan Carniaux has been Uli Beckerhoff's successor at the Folkwang University as professor of jazz trumpet since 2013 .
