Toru "Tiger" Okoshi (born March 21, 1950 in Ashita , Japan) is an American jazz trumpeter of Japanese origin.

Okoshi has been a self-taught jazz trumpet since he was thirteen . After studying economics at Kwansei Gakuin University , he came to the USA in 1972. Here he graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1975 with summa cum laude .

Okoshi became known as a partner of Gary Burton . In 1974 he appeared with the Mike Gibbs Orchestra in Carnegie Hall on. The following year he toured the United States with the Buddy Rich Orchestra . In the early 1990s he worked with Lorraine Desmarais and George Russell's Living Time Orchestra, and recorded with Bob Moses . With his own band Tigers Baku he recorded several albums, including Echoes of a Note (a tribute to Louis Armstrong ). Okoshi is a professor at Berklee College of Music.
