Youth Culture Festival Basel

The Youth Culture Festival Basel ( JKF ) is a three-day festival that has been taking place every two years since 2003 in the late summer in downtown Basel .

The JKF goes back to the " Grenzenlos " festival in 1997, which for the first time made a cross-disciplinary platform available to young people in the region. In 2000, the festival continued under the name JKF in Basel and Freiburg im Breisgau with around 40,000 visitors. The festival has been held every two years since 2003. It is carried out by young people who are organized in the association " Neues JKF ". The third edition attracted around 60,000 visitors.

Classical formations also appeared for the first time in 2005; In addition, Theater Basel took part in the implementation, making dance and theater part of the program for the first time. Around 70,000 visitors came to the fourth festival. This was followed by a debate in the canton about the location of the festival, noise emissions and waste problems, which, however, quickly fell silent due to the support of the JKF on the part of the population, administration and politics. In 2007, a program with various acts was offered again for 70,000 visitors. The festival was held in 2009 with 50,000 visitors and in 2011 with 60,000 visitors.
