The Jugendmusik Lackenbach was founded in 1973 by the music teacher and former director of the Oberpullendorf Music School, Michael Wild, and comprises around 30 active young musicians who come from Lackenbach and the various communities in the Oberpullendorf district .

The Jugendmusik Lackenbach has so far undertaken 26 tours abroad, including two to Asia, three to America and 21 to European countries.

In addition to concerts in St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, in the UN headquarters in New York or in Disney World / Florida, the penultimate concert tour to the People's Republic of China is a highlight of the international activities to date. The occasion was the anniversary celebrations for the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic China and the Republic of Austria. The Jugendmusik Lackenbach was invited to the Middle Kingdom as the official ambassador.

The so far last trip abroad made the youth music Lackenbach to the United States for the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp .

Michael Wild was awarded the "Great Badge of Honor of the Municipality of Lackenbach" on August 31, 2008 on the occasion of the ceremony "35 years of youth music in Lackenbach" in Schloss Lackenbach because of his special services to the municipality of Lackenbach.

On March 29, 2015, Michael Wild resigned from his position as head of JML. The long-time musician and functionary Marco Horvath was appointed as his successor. Wild was accepted as honorary bandmaster by the JML board.
