The Julefrokost (from Dan. July: Christmas and frokost: Lunch ) is next to the Lucia celebration an integral part of the Danish Advent and Christmas season . It takes place in a family setting on Christmas Day at lunchtime, and close relatives are usually invited.

Christmas celebrations by companies and associations are also known as Julefrokost. In both cases, Julefrokost can take place throughout the day, but the family usually starts between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

The main component of Julefrokost is a large buffet of cold and warm dishes. Regional dishes often play a major role. It starts with fish dishes, especially various herring preparations , with which Aquavit is served. This is followed by meat dishes that are accompanied by beer, either the higher proof Christmas brew ( Julebryg ) or Christmas beer ( Juleøl or Nisse øl ), a dark, sweet light beer . The traditional finish is almond milk rice ( Ris à l'amande ). It consists of cold vanilla milk rice , whipped cream and chopped almonds, with cherry sauce. The dessert is accompanied by port wine .
