Wincenty Lilius
Wincenty Lilius (also: Vincenzo Gigli , Lilio ) (* around 1570 in Rome , † 1636 in Warsaw ) was a Polish composer of Italian origin.
Live and act
Lilius was first a member of the archducal chapel in Graz, before he was in the court chapel of King Sigismund III from around 1596 . Wasa found a job in Krakow . From 1609 he worked in the court chapel in Warsaw, which was directed by Marco Scacchi from 1630 . In 1639 Lilius was mentioned for the last time in the court books.
In addition to masses and motets, he composed Latin hymns . In 1604 he published the Melodiae sacrae in Cracow , an anthology of works by all members of the Cracow court orchestra. Among them is his only surviving work, the multi-choir motet Congratulamini mihi omnes .
The sons Franciszek Lilius , Karol Lilius and Szymon Lilius mentioned in his will, along with other children , also emerged as musicians, the latter as organist and organ builder.
