After his training in Rome with Giovanni Francesco Anerio , he moved to Warsaw , where from 1624 he worked as a violinist in the royal chapel of Sigismund III. worked and in 1630, after the death of Anerio, he took over the position of Kapellmeister. In 1635 he married the German Regina Keller. It was not until 1649 that he returned to his hometown for health reasons, devoted himself to teaching and writing essays on music theory. His student Angelo Berardi quotes Scacchi several times and expressly in his Documenti armonici from 1687.

During his time in Poland he maintained lively contacts with Italian and German musicians, such as Romano Micheli (around 1575- after 1659), Heinrich Schütz , Johann Stobaeus , Ambrosius Profe (1589-around 1657), but especially with the organist from Danzig and Kapellmeister Kaspar Förster . On the other hand, under his influence, Polish composers and members of the court orchestra, such as Marcin Mielczewski or Franciszek Lilius, were able to develop their style.

Marco Scacchi, who often used the polychoral technique in his works , created several works of sacred vocal music, including masses and madrigals . An oratorio and almost all of its stage works are lost. In his compositions there is a synthesis of the Roman influence of his teacher Anerio and the style of Claudio Monteverdi .

Furthermore, Scacchi was known during the 17th century as the author of music theory writings that related to discussions about the prima pratica and the seconda pratica . His writings " Cribrum Musicum " from 1643 or " Breve discorso " from 1649 should be mentioned here.
