Ambrosius Profe

Ambrosius Profe , also Latinized as Ambrosius Profius , (* February 12, 1589 in Breslau , Principality of Breslau ; † December 27, 1661 ibid) was a German organist , composer and music editor .

life and work

Ambrosius Profe studied theology at the University of Wittenberg from 1612 . From 1617 he worked as a teacher at the Elisabet Gymnasium in Breslau. In the same year he took on the role of cantor and teacher in Jauer . In 1629 he returned to Breslau after the re-Catholicization of Silesia. From 1633 to 1649 he worked there at the Elisabeth Church as an organist. In addition to this church music activity, he ran a trading business until his death.

As a composer he wrote the Fame and Thanks Song (Breslau 1634), the 6-part Spiritus sancti gratia (manuscript) and the two movements, nos. 22 and 25, in the Cunis solemnibus .
