Julius Wiesner (soccer player)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Julius Wiesner (* unknown; † unknown) was an Austrian national soccer player .

From 1901 Wiesner can be found in the line-ups of the Viennese FC 1898 , with whom he took part in the most important competitions of those years such as the Tagblatt Cup and the Challenge Cup . At that time, 1898 was generally the third best club in Vienna, although the gap to the leading clubs Vienna AC and First Vienna FC 1894 was substantial.

In March 1902 he played with the selection of the Austrian Football Union against a selection of Czech clubs from Prague. In the middle of the year he played two games in Budapest with an unofficial selection team of the Viennese clubs appearing as Ramblers Wien. On October 12, 1902, in place of a Dettelmeyer who was enlisted in the military, he played in a city game between Vienna and Budapest between the teams of the Austrian Football Union and the Hungarian Football Association, which was later recognized as an international match. Austria won this game, in which Wiesner is described as a fast, ball-safe right winger, 5-0.

After the Vienna FC 1898 disbanded after the end of the 1902/03 season due to a lack of players and a lack of sporting prospects, Wiesner played with First Vienna FC 1894 in the “1. Class “of the championship of the ÖFU. Most recently, he was recorded in a line-up in a friendly against the Ferencvárosi TC on March 10, 1907 in Budapest.

Remarks

  1. The date of birth January 20, 1878 and the date of death October 9, 1916 are often given in the usual online databases. Since this is more or less the data of the scientist of the same name , which only differ in one place, it can be assumed that the year of birth of this scientist was made "appropriate" and transferred to the footballer.
  2. This information comes from the Prager Tagblatt , No. 282 of October 13, 1902. It does not appear there which “Dettelmeyer” is involved. In the great football in Austria archive of Ambrosius Kutschera there are three players with similar names with reference to that era. The three-time national player Fritz Dettelmaier or the simple national player Karl Dettelmaier , both from Vienna AC, seem most likely . There is also another unspecified Dettelmayer from Graphia Wien , who played a game from a selection of the “2. Class “of the ÖFU against a Swiss selection in April 1904.
