functionality

JUNIOR is a program of the Institut der Deutschen Wirtschaft Köln JUNIOR gGmbH, founded in 2008, and is carried out in all 16 German federal states. The JUNIOR programs offer young people the opportunity to experience the economy live and to train their communication skills and social skills. JUNIOR is part of the initiative group for the “Entrepreneurship in Schools” project, which was launched by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy . As Junior Achievement Germany, the Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft Köln JUNIOR gGmbH is a member of the European umbrella association Junior Achievement Europe and the global association Junior Achievement Worldwide .

In Germany the programs JUNIOR expert, JUNIOR advanced, JUNIOR basic and JUNIOR primo are offered.

JUNIOR expert

Pupils from grade 9 develop their own business idea in the JUNIOR expert program and implement it after founding a student company limited to one year. The students sell up to 90 shares of 10 euros each after the foundation and receive a maximum start-up capital of 900 euros. In the financial year, wages, taxes and insurance premiums have to be paid, business reports have to be drawn up and the product produced and sold or services rendered. At the end of the financial year, the company is dissolved and the shareholders are paid their dividends.

JUNIOR advanced

JUNIOR advanced is a program that is aimed at students in grades 7 to 10 and also especially at secondary and secondary schools. The program ties in with JUNIOR expert. Significant differences between the expert and advanced programs arise in the process and the requirements for the participating students.

JUNIOR basic

The only program that is not limited to one year is the JUNIOR basic program. It is also suitable for participants from the 5th grade and offers an easily understandable introduction to the world of business. In contrast to the other programs, it is also possible for participants to run a purely reselling business.

JUNIOR primo

The primary school program JUNIOR primo has been specially designed for younger children and is not a classic student company program. As part of JUNIOR primo, elementary school students learn a basic understanding of the roles, tasks and responsibilities of the various actors in a community. Teachers are provided with material to guide the children on a journey through the community.

A more detailed overview of the differences between the expert, advanced and basic programs can be found on the IW JUNIOR website.

Competitions

Competitions are held annually at the state, federal and European level. State and federal competitions are organized by IW JUNIOR gGmbH, the European competition is organized by Junior Achievement Europe . Annual reports, trade fair stands and stage presentations are sometimes assessed by several juries and ultimately lead to the regional, national and European winners.

State competitions

In the state competition of JUNIOR companies, the ten best companies in a state, which qualified via the previously submitted annual report and the monthly reports, compete against each other. The jury evaluates, among other things, the annual report, a stage presentation, an exhibition stand, an interview with the expert jury at the stand, as well as the overall impression of the company and the business idea. In addition to the criteria mentioned, the development process of the students, their handling of problems and challenges in a team or the ability to inspire potential customers and investors also flow into the assessment. The winners of the respective federal state represent this in the national competition. If a particularly large number of companies take part in a federal state, it is possible to invite more than 10 companies to the state competition and also to allow more than one company to participate in the national competition.

Federal competition

The winners of the state decisions compete against each other in the federal competition, the evaluation criteria are the same as those of the state competition. The two-day federal final also includes a supporting program to get to know each other, further training and a concluding evening event.

European competition

The Company of the Year Competition from Junior Achievement Europe is a multi-day contest in which the top winners at the national level compete. The entire event will be held in English. The assessment is based on the annual report, which is also in English, as well as a stage presentation, a stand interview and a separate panel interview. In addition, an extensive supporting program is offered, which shows the cultural background of the organizing nation and is intended to motivate the participants to intercultural contact.

JUNIOR Alumni eV

The network of former JUNIOR participants "JUNIOR Alumni eV", originally founded in 2004 under the name JENZ eV ( J unior- E hemaligen- N et z werk), also organizes the official Best Website Award in addition to other local and national events , in the JUNIOR Companies with particularly successful websites are awarded. Similar prizes are given for the best image video ("Best video award") and special commitment ("Alumni Engagement Award").

The former participants support the active JUNIOR participants in the project year and offer workshops, team trainings and conferences (also on a European level).
