Juristenball dances

Juristenball-Tänze is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 177). The work was performed for the first time on January 14, 1856 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The work was composed for the law students' ball (Juristenball) and performed there. It is one of the composer's pieces written for Mardi Gras in 1856. For the Viennese, the work was a normal, average Strauss waltz. Just one of many. Johann Strauss took him on his trip to Russia and played him in Pavlovsk , near St. Petersburg . The Russian audience was enthusiastic about the work. On all further trips to Russia Strauss had this waltz in his program and every time the audience there was enthusiastic. In Russia, this waltz is very popular to this day.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 9 minutes and 12 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
