The Kópavogskirkja is a church on the Kópavogur hill near Reykjavík . It was designed by the architects Hörður Bjarnason and Ragnar Emilsson and was consecrated on December 12, 1962 after two years of construction.

The Kópavogskirkja , which has the shape of a central building on the outside , is organized inside like a hall church . Its layout is based on the Greek cross . The altar is in the east and the organ on a gallery in the west. Galleries with chairs for church visitors were also built in the north and south.

The church windows, designed by Gerður Helgadóttir , are predominantly in the colors blue and red and create an atmospheric light inside.

With its stacked bowls , the Kópavogskirkja is reminiscent of the Sydney Opera House by Jørn Utzon .
