Cologne List (doping)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cologne List is a list of dietary supplements with a minimized doping risk . It is a service platform that the Olympiastützpunkt Rheinland makes available to top athletes and manufacturers, in particular to protect athletes from unjustified doping allegations. The Cologne list currently includes 446 products.

situation

An international study by the Institute for Biochemistry at the German Sport University Cologne , funded by the IOC , showed that around 15 percent of the food supplements purchased in 13 countries contained anabolic steroids (mainly prohormones ) that were not stated on the packaging. In Germany, around 11 percent of the food supplements tested contained prohibited anabolic steroids. The anabolic steroids are probably impurities that do not have a doping effect, but can inadvertently lead to positive doping results.

This is an intolerable situation for the athletes, as they cannot or hardly assess the risk of the absorption of doping substances due to a lack of or insufficient information about individual products, but they have to assume the consequences themselves. There is a risk of falling into disrepute through no fault of your own and thereby endangering your sporting career.

target

The Cologne List offers top athletes a listing of nutritional supplements with a minimized doping risk and manufacturers a voluntary, independent platform to increase the transparency of their products for top athletes.
