The King Saud University ( Arabic جامعة الملك سعود, DMG Ǧāmiʿat al-Malik Saʿūd , English: King Saud University ) is a university in Riyadh , Saudi Arabia with 61,412 students (2013).
The university was founded in 1957 by King Saud ibn Abd al-Aziz as the University of Riyadh and is the oldest university in Saudi Arabia . For a long time the university was the only higher education institution in the country with a secular instead of the Islamic curriculum. In 1982 the name was changed to its current name.
In 2010 the Gazal-1 was presented as a car prototype. The Gazal-1 licenses are all owned by the university.
The Riyadh trolleybus , the first in the country , has been operating on the university campus since October 2012 .
