The Wiebke-Kruse-Tower, structural remnants of the Glückstadt royal court

The royal court in Glückstadt in Schleswig-Holstein goes back to a former city palace of the Danish King Christian IV , of which the so-called Wiebke-Kruse Tower still towers over the Glückstadt harbor.

The royal court was the first residence of the Danish king in the city founded in 1617. He used it until the completion of his Glückstadt Castle , which was built in the immediate vicinity until 1631. In 1638 the palace was given to his lover Wiebke Kruse as a gift . The building was demolished after a fire in the 19th century, only the tower and the basement remained. A residential building in the form of historicism was built on the foundations until 1867 . The polygonal stair tower with its curved hood is crowned by a wind vane in the form of a rider and the Danish orb to the present day.
