King songs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Königslieder is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 334). The work was performed for the first time on April 4, 1869 in the flower room of the Horticultural Society in Vienna.

Remarks

The waltz was premiered on the occasion of a gala concert by the Strauss brothers in the flower room of the Vienna Horticultural Society. Each of the three brothers performed a new waltz on this occasion, all of which were then dedicated to King Ludwig I of Portugal. That explains the naming of this waltz. The reason for this dedication to the Portuguese king has not yet been determined. There were no apparent reasons for the dedication. Therefore, the question of the reason for the dedication must remain open. The waltz does not seem to have had that great success. As a result, the work disappeared from the concert schedule. This was also due to the large number of Strauss' compositions in those years, which displaced each other from the concert plans.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 12 minutes and 6 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
